2025 Paddle the Estuary: Grand Bayou Choctaw

Get ready to explore the scenic beauty of our estuary with BTNEP’s brand new “Paddle the Estuary” series, which will allow participants to explore different areas of the estuary each year.

We’re excited to announce that our very first paddle of the series is happening Saturday, November 1st at Grand Bayou Choctaw in Brusly! We’ll be launching from Floyd’s Morley Marina (7675 Choctaw Rd, Brusly, LA 70719) for an exciting 8.7 miles of winding bayou, surrounded by lush native vegetation and vibrant wildlife. Whether you’re an experienced paddler or just looking for a fun way to connect with nature, this event offers a unique way to experience Louisiana’s only national estuary! Check-in begins at 8:00 a.m., and breakfast will be available. A welcome ceremony will begin at 8:45 a.m., with the launch starting at 9:00 a.m. The paddle is expected to take most participants between 2.5 and 3.5 hours. After your time on the water, enjoy a hearty lunch of home-cooked jambalaya and white beans, while tapping your toes to live music from the Cajun Music Preservation Society.

Adult registration is $30, students (K–college) are $15, and children five and under paddle for free. Your registration includes an event t-shirt, breakfast, lunch, and other BTNEP swag! Please note that participants must bring their own canoe, kayak, or paddleboard, along with a paddle and life jacket. Participants will not be allowed on the water without a life jacket. If you need to reserve a kayak/canoe, please contact Emily Braud at 985-448-4990. The kayaks/canoes will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis and will be ready at the launch site on the morning of the paddle. Each reservation includes a paddle and a life jacket. Water will be provided in the morning, and drinks will be available for purchase at the marina following the paddle. No outside beverages are allowed. We hope to see you there!
