Miami Waterkeeper is seeking a motivated, passionate individual to join our team in the role of Outreach Coordinator. This role combines communications, education, science, and policy, and has the potential to make a lasting impact on the South Florida ecosystem. The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator with a strong knowledge about the environmental issues facing Biscayne Bay and the surrounding watershed. The Outreach Coordinator will report to the Program Director.
Responsibilities
- Conduct community outreach through educational programs, presentations, and hands-on activities
- Plan and lead volunteer and member events, such as restoration projects, boat tours, lectures (some nights and weekends required)
- Represent Miami Waterkeeper at community events and meetings
- Develop new methods of engaging the community in our work
- Conduct weekly water quality monitoring field work
- Create content for social media, blog, and website on clean water issues as well as our programs
- Assist with grant proposals, tracking metrics, and reporting program accomplishments
- Assist with a variety of research, policy, and education activities as needed (plenty of opportunities to learn new skills and new aspects of marine conservation)
Desired Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
- Experience in science communication required
- Environmental field research experience
- Formal or informal education experience
- Experience with social media and content management platforms
- Extremely organized and detail oriented
- Fluency in English required, proficiency in spoken/written Spanish preferred
- Desired but not required: boat handling, GIS, lab experience, event planning
