Description

The iSWOOP project (Interpreters and Scientists Working on Our Parks) seeks an 8-week intern for STEM outreach and education programs at Barataria Preserve, part of the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve in New Orleans. This initiative showcases cutting-edge science in an interactive way to foster science literacy and long-term interest and engagement in park science.

The iSWOOP intern will primarily interact with adult visitors, youth and families interested in learning about the science going on behind the scenes at the Preserve. In addition to leading programs (10-30 minutes on topics like bird migration and changes to the swamp) and having informal interactions with visitors, the intern will have a variety of other tasks including designing programs and visuals for multi-age audiences on new park-science topics, gathering props, documenting the work, and establishing relationships with new local partners. All duties will be determined in consultation with the lead supervisor on-site and with iSWOOP project staff.

First generation college students are encouraged to apply. Online research, graphic design skills, and fluency in Spanish are desirable skills.
