The primary purpose of this position is to outreach, plan and implement citizen science programs at the Wetlands Acadian Cultural Center, of Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. The work involves reaching out to schools, citizen groups, scouts, and organizations, especially those with underserved populations, to engage them in learning and caring for Louisiana culture and natural history, and scientific discovery. Work will include but not be limited to:

  • Office work/Microsoft Office knowledge
  • Canoeing/boats
  • Comfort in hot and cold outdoor conditions
  • Comfort with working in field conditions
  • General knowledge of swamp, marsh, and Louisiana environments
  • Working with students, teachers, and general public
  • Safety consciousness

The position will be responsible for identifying, contacting, scheduling and implementing schools and groups to participate in citizen science programs at the Park, with special emphasis on underserved populations.
