School Supply Drive in Support of Recent Louisiana Flooding
Release Date: September 06, 2016
September 6-20, 2016 - The Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program (BTNEP) will be conducting a school supply drive beginning on September 6, 2016, in support of those affected in the recent Louisiana flooding.
Due to the devastating record setting August flooding, many schools in Ascension and Livingston Parishes have lost a lot of their supplies and equipment. BTNEP would like to help those schools get back on their feet with some of the essential supplies they need to guarantee a productive school year for their students.
Beginning on September 6, 2016, BTNEP will start accepting donations consisting of loose leaf paper, pens/pencils, colored pencils, notebooks, stick glue, construction paper, copy paper, crayons, markers, rulers, scissors and folders. Monetary donations can also be made and will aid in the replacements of P.E. and band supplies and equipment. The drive will end on September 20, 2016, at 4pm. Items will then be sorted and divided and delivered to the receiving locations for each parish.

BTNEP has conducted similar school supply drives in the past. Back in 2005, the organization ran a drive for the victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Also, in 2008, another drive was conducted for those in need after Hurricane Gustav. The response in 2005 and 2008 was amazing and BTNEP hopes the response for the 2016 drive is just as strong as in the past years.
